Sherri and I would like to extend best wishes to all for recent Easter, Passover, and other springtime celebrations. We took a break from the campaign trail on Easter Sunday to spend time with family.
Up until then, it was a busy week. On Friday, I stopped by the historic Trade Union Leadership Council (TULC) office in Detroit for a television interview with veteran political analyst Steve Hood. We were back later that evening for a TULC fish fry.
I talked with Steve about my strong support of the recent scrap bill legislation; how I would use my experience as Westland mayor to balance Wayne County government’s budget; and how I would collaborate far better with Prosecutor Kym Worthy than the current county CEO.
You can see the interview on “Detroit Wants 2 Know,” Sunday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m. on WMYD My TV 20.
On Saturday, I attended a breakfast hosted by the 13th Congressional District at Rosedale Park Baptist Church with the mayors of Inkster, Ecorse and Highland Park. The discussion focused on getting out the vote. I’m looking forward to working with Democrats across the county to build a strong turnout and win victories up and down the ballot in 2014.
That’s why I was so glad to meet Mark Schauer later on Saturday, at the 11th Congressional District Democrats meeting. I’m proud to endorse Mark for Governor – he’s a fighter for Michigan jobs and that’s what we need in Lansing. What a great choice he made by picking Lisa Brown for his running mate!
Also had a great time on Saturday with the Barton-McFarlane Neighborhood Association during its monthly membership meeting on Detroit’s west side. It’s my second visit there this year. I shared my vision for the Wayne County CEO’s office. Many thanks to Mr. Kerry Sanders, BMNA president, and also board officers Ms. Theo Broughton and Ms. Abena Hogan for their warm welcome.
Just 108 days to the Aug.5th Primary! We continue to crisscross all 43 communities in Wayne County, sharing our pledge to bring a budget-balancing, common-sense approach to fixing the mess on the executive floor of the Guardian Building.
