Memorial Day is a great time for parades and barbeques. It’s the traditional start of the summer season and a great day to spend time with friends and family.
But let’s never forget the real reason for this holiday: We are honoring those who lost their lives while serving our country.
Here in the United States, it can be easy to take freedom for granted. We can post on Facebook, write a letter to the editor, or get involved in a political campaign without thinking twice. But that’s not true everywhere. The reason we enjoy those freedoms here is because of the brave sacrifices made by men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.
As we spend time with our families this weekend, let’s remember there are families who are missing a loved one because he or she never came back from their service to our country. We are forever in your debt, and we honor you by remembering each year, the real reason for Memorial Day.
