Building relationships are key in public service. It is imperative that local governments have strong working relationships with legislators in Lansing and I appreciate Fausone Bohn, LLP for hosting the Lansing to Local breakfast discussion on pending legislative and regulatory reform. We need to know how law and reforms will affect businesses in Wayne County. John Walsh, speaker of the House Pro Tem gave an informed update about roads in the state and the money needed for repair. We also heard from Bill Rustem, director of strategy for Governor Rick Snyder who talked about personal property tax. I was honored to share the Westland Story where I explained how we brought back a city from the brink of bankruptcy. What we have done in Westland to turn the city around can be done in Wayne County. We reduced costs, brought in business and not only avoided a deficit but we created a surplus. We just presented a 3-year balanced budget. We proved in Westland that it can be done.
